Introduction :
National Council for Promotion of Urdu
Language was established as an autonomous body under the
Ministry of Human Resource Development, Department of
Secondary & Higher Education, Government of India and
started functioning w.e.f. 1st April, 1996.
The Govt. of India took an important step
by declaring NCPUL as the nodal agency for promotion of
Urdu language in the country. NCPUL was given the role
of networking among the minority and Urdu organizations
throughout the country so as the policies of the
Government could be implemented in all Urdu speaking
areas of the country. For past few years NCPUL has
emerged as an effective coordination mechanism for
promotion of Urdu language and Urdu medium education in
India.
The Council has since its establishment
made a visible impact on the Urdu speaking Community and
worked with a new vision. This vision entails
rediscovering the affinity of Urdu language with other
Indian languages in the multilingual realities of India.
Council has done commendable exercise by emphasizing
that Urdu ethos is essentially Indian and very close and
similar to other languages of India.
The non-Governmental Organizations
consistently have proved to be very effective in the
propagation and development of Urdu Language. One of the
benefits of implementing the schemes through NGOs is
that they are able to reach the remotest areas of the
country. Moreover, the NGOs have established a closer
rapport with the masses thereby enjoying a great degree
of credibility.
NCPUL provides financial assistance to
NGOs and Individuals under various approved schemes of
the Govt. of India. For the information of NGOs,
individuals and all Urdu loving people, details of all
these schemes are given here alongwith application
